Ignorance + Discrimination = MassResistance!

Jesse Sparks is a Mormon wordpress user who has so interestingly engaged us in the comment section of the “Traditional Marriage?” posting. In our back and forth on the comment section of one of his blog postings, he guided me to the MassResistance! website, which he claims shows that “many of these consequences [of same-gender marriage], however, have started to become visible in Massachusetts.” To be fair, he did link to this section of the MassResistance! website, which contains simple, blatant homophobia as ‘reasons’ that marriage equality should be denied. MassResistance! is also classified as an anti-gay hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Nonetheless, the real gems are on the MassResistance! mainpage:

1) Hideous gay fascist-like Prop-8 “protests” across USA. Phony attempt to replicate Civil Rights movement.
2) Homosexual activists hold angry anti-marriage rally at Boston City Hall.

Need we even deal with the tone and factual incorrectness of these misstatements? “Hideous gay fascist-like protests?” A bit exaggerated, no? Aren’t we having more ‘fabulous communist-like protests?’

Jesse, why didn’t you approve my comments on your blog that pointed to these repugnant, factually skewed statements on this ‘organizations’ main page? I’m guessing approving and having to respond to my comments wouldn’t have done much to help your argument.

Finally, I must pass on this important news page from MassResistance! to concerned heterosexuals: “The homosexual movement cannot achieve their goals without eventually resorting to brutal tactics of intimidation and even terror. After lying and personal demonization, this is always the next logical step. And it will continue — and escalate — as long as the population is unwilling to fight back.”

I did not respond because I knew that the banter would continue on forever unless one of us stopped. Obviously, you’re not going to feel the same way that I do, regardless of any form of evidence that I show.

I will say, I have not thoroughly looked over the link that I sent you. I should have though, and I regret doing so now because of the manner in which they present their information.

Bottom line is this: we all have differing opinions and beliefs on this issue. The majority of the people in California have spoken. There are other states that allow same-sex marriage. If it is really that important, one can reside in those states to obtain all the tax benefits that come along with marriage.

No, Jesse, those tax benefits are federal. Until the federal government recognizes same-gender marriage, in any state I choose to live, regardless of state marriage equality provisions, I will be put at a disadvantage federally to married heterosexuals. Remember, the IRS and most social entitlement programs are federal, and the federal government recognize marriages as the only valid union between two consenting adults, not civil unions/domestic partnerships, in terms of those 1200+ applicable federal laws.
